Tottenham draw up new transfer shortlist with six stars eyed for Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham are preparing for a busy summer transfer window that will see Ange Postecoglou backed in the market once again, following his first season in charge of the club.

Spurs have impressed under the manager in a short amount of time, playing free-flowing football while earning results along the way.

The goal for the end of the campaign is a top-four finish, which will result in Champions League qualification for next season.

The Lilywhites require an uptick in recent form to beat Aston Villa to that final spot though, following a 4-0 defeat to Newcastle and a 3-2 loss in the North London derby to rivals Arsenal.

Regardless of their final league position, the past few games have underlined some key areas in the Tottenham squad that will need to be addressed by Ange Postecoglou and chairman Daniel Levy in the summer window.

Tottenham transfer targets

With reinforcements needed, a lot of the business Tottenham conduct could be dictated on whether they finish in the top four or not.

There are some players who will naturally pick a club based on Champions League football, which can influence a deal, while the cash injection received from the competition can also bring in an extra body or two.

According to The Telegraph, Spurs are building a shortlist based on both possibilities, allowing them to swiftly jump between plans depending on where they finish in the league.

The report claims that the North London outfit have interest in Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, with their rivals facing the possibility of selling the Cobham academy graduate this summer.

There’s also interest in Barcelona winger Raphina, Juventus starlet Samuel Illing-Junior and Feyenoord’s star striker Santiago Gimenez.

With a view to shoring up the backline, Everton’s defensive midfielder Amadou Onana is also on Tottenham’s radar, along with Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly – who is a free agent in the summer.

Tottenham priority transfers

It’s clear that Tottenham still have plenty of work to do in the transfer market to bring the squad to the level everyone desires.

Postecoglou faces a challenge in raising both the floor and the ceiling of the team, adding both quality and depth.

It was an issue Antonio Conte faced, opting for quantity over quality and getting the balance of the squad wrong.

While Spurs have looked to add quality in a season where they’ve had fewer games – due to less cup action – the challenge will be building the team again in a campaign with European football and a desire to keep improving.

Cover is needed for both key full-backs, while another centre-back, midfielder, winger and striker all appear to be on the agenda.

The tough thing for Tottenham to work out is which of these areas will be the priority for this summer.
