US carmaker Tesla presents futuristic Cybertruck in Germany

US electric car manufacturer Tesla has presented its futuristic Cybertruck in Germany, though it is still unclear whether it will ever be allowed to drive on German roads.

The 3.1-ton, 5.68-metre vehicle was on display in a shopping centre on Potsdamer Platz in Berlin on Thursday. According to the company, it is the first presentation for the general public in Germany.

Previously, the new truck had only been on display in Germany at the Tesla factory in Grünheide near Berlin, according to the company owned by tech billionaire Elon Musk.

The presentation in Berlin is the start of a European tour of the Cybertruck lasting several weeks. In Germany, the truck will be on show in Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hanover, Munich and Stuttgart. The Cybertruck is not yet authorized in Europe.

The company has not provided any information on whether and when it is seeking authorization in Germany and other European countries.

In the United States, the first Cybertrucks were delivered at the end of November.

However, just a few weeks ago, Tesla recalled almost 4,000 of the vehicles because the accelerator pedal can jam and the vehicle can accelerate uncontrollably. The recall was the first indication of how many vehicles of the model have been sold so far, as it affected all Cybertrucks built from mid-November to early April.

Musk said some time ago that he could envisage annual deliveries of around 250,000 Cybertrucks over time.
