'I remember': £39m Tottenham player is still annoyed by what happened to Spurs in December

Tottenham No.23 Pedro Porro has now revealed he is still annoyed by what happened to Spurs in December.

As we approach the end of the 2023/24 campaign, many players are presumably mulling over the events of the past nine months, some maybe feeling pleased with themselves, while others wonder what they could have done differently.

In regards to the Spain international, he is firmly in the latter category as Tottenham face an uphill battle to wrestle a UEFA Champions League qualification spot from Aston Villa.

So, what happened in December that is still on the mind of Pedro Porro? Let’s take a look…

Well, a specific incident in the 2-1 defeat against West Ham back in December is still annoying the Spaniard.

Spurs were 1-0 up against the Hammers thanks to a header from Cristian Romero, before a freak goal from Jarrod Bowen levelled the scoreline at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham seemed well placed to deal with an attack from West Ham, forcing Mohammed Kudus to take a gamble from long range, only for the Ghana international’s shot to ricochet off Romero and then Ben Davies.

It saw the ball fall perfectly for Bowen to smash beyond Guglielmo Vicario, and West Ham went on to win 2-1 after a strike from James Ward-Prowse.

Speaking about that incident in a new interview with Telemundo in Argentina, Porro said: “(There is) also bad luck, because after all, if I remember correctly, the West Ham game at home they shot from outside the box, it bounced to Cuti (Romero), bounced again and stayed for the striker to push it in.”

It was a freak moment, in fairness – no wonder the £39m man is still thinking about it.

Tottenham can still qualify for UEFA Champions League

However, it is almost a false table, as Tottenham have two games in hand over the Villans.

If Ange Postecoglou can achieve six points from these games in hand, it would put Spurs just a point behind Aston Villa with three games to play.

Therefore, Spurs fans certainly shouldn’t be giving up on fourth spot just yet.
