25-year-old was locked in a hotel to stop him joining Liverpool, now they could finally sign him

Liverpool are reportedly interested in a 25-year-old, who the club wanted to sign a few years ago but could not.

It’s not just going to be the Arne Slot era beginning at Liverpool this summer. It’s also going to be the Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes era.

The two will be almost as important as Slot. Especially as they navigate the changing landscape of the Liverpool squad.

Naturally, with not just Jurgen Klopp leaving but so many of his backroom staff, it’s entirely possible there will be a fair few changes made in the playing squad as well.

But there will be new faces arriving at the club, too.

Victor Osimhen on Liverpool’s transfer radar again?

One player who continues to be linked with a move to Liverpool is Victor Osimhen. The 25-year-old Napoli forward is someone who has been on the club’s radar for years.

And given how Napoli has performed this season, it would not be a surprise if he was looking to move elsewhere.

According to Corriere dello Sport Osimhen’s dream is to join a club in the Premier League, and Liverpool are among the club’s considering a move for the Nigerian’s services.

Given there is some uncertainty surrounding Darwin Nunez’s future at the club, Osimhen could make for an ideal replacement. Especially, as he is someone Edwards and Klopp both wanted for a while.

How Victor Osimhen was prevented from joining Liverpool

Before Victor Osimhen signed for Napoli, Liverpool were also in the race for his signature. Back then Napoli director Cristiano Giuntoli ‘locked’ Osimhen inside a hotel to persuade him to join Napoli instead of a move to Anfield.

That is according to Giandomenico Costi, who worked with Giuntoli at Napoli. Cost lifted the lid on Osimhen’s move to Naples in an interview last year.

He told Italian outlet Tuttosport (via Liverpool Echo): “The signing of Osimhen is Giuntoli’s biggest masterpiece.

“He [Osimhen] was locked in a hotel for three days. Giuntoli knew Liverpool were interested, and Jurgen Klopp had made his move, but Cristiano spoke to Osimhen in the hotel for three days until he convinced him to accept Napoli.
