Report: Newcastle set sights on award-winning attacking midfield talent also wanted by Xabi Alonso

Newcastle United are likely to be busy in the summer transfer window as Eddie Howe looks to bolster his ranks ahead of a crucial season.

The Magpies were expected to kick on following last season’s top-four finish, but they’ve struggled to compete on four fronts with the squad they’ve got.

Newcastle will also have to be mindful of staying on the right side of profit and sustainability regulations so as to not risk points deductions.

The Magpies could therefore look to supplement any big summer purchases with free transfers and top talents with a bright future ahead of them.

Now, according to a report from Ghana, Newcastle have set their sights on an 18-year-old attacking midfielder who is also on the radar of Bayer Leverkusen.

Ghanasoccernet have reported that the Magpies have expressed a desire to sign Dreams FC and Ghana youth international Abdul Aziz Issah.

As well as Newcastle, the likes of Nottingham Forest, Sporting Lisbon, Zamalek and Al Ahly are eyeing the young playmaker.

A similar report from the same outlet has claimed that Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen have also set their sights on Issah.

Indeed, Leverkusen officials have reportedly made contact with Dreams FC regarding a possible transfer.

Who is reported Newcastle target Abdul Aziz Issah?

Issah started his career playing for the Dreams Youth Academy and was promoted to the senior team in 2022.

He caught the eye recently thanks to his efforts in the CAF Confederation Cup, helping Dreams FC to the semi-finals with four goals and two assists.

In addition, Issah played a crucial role in helping Ghana win the African Games Gold Medal on home soil.

Issah’s efforts saw him win the Discovery of the Season award at the Ghana Football Association Awards late last year.

X account Trill Scout recently published a scouting report on the reported Newcastle target on the social media platform.

They described him as an ‘influential’ attacking midfielder with a ‘dynamic left foot’ and said he has the ‘X-factor’.

Trill Scout also listed his balance, agility, speed, stamina, vision, initiative, shooting, movement and ball control as star points.
