Large-scale NATO military exercises begin in Sweden

NATO military exercises have started in northern Sweden. As part of them, support for American units will be practiced, according to ERR.

Military convoys several kilometers long will be moving in northern Sweden for several days. They will consist of about 200 military vehicles and 1,600 soldiers.

The objective of the exercises will be to practice supporting American units. In particular, the Swedes will have to provide transportation and security on the way across the Atlantic Ocean to the northern part of Scandinavia.

Such exercises were previously conducted in Germany in 2015. At that time, the US aimed to demonstrate that its military presence in Europe was reestablished after a long break. The exercises were a response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2014.
