Barcelona are in a difficult financial position ahead of the summer transfer window, as they need to make sales in order to comply with wage restrictions.
Years of heavy spending has led Barcelona to a position where they cannot currently strengthen the squad without major sales, and after a disappointing position on the pitch, it remains a turbulent time off it, and Xavi Hernandez will now stay after initially expressing his desire to step down at the end of the campaign.
Several big names have been linked with exits, and Barcelona may now be forced to consider big offers for players they previously considered unsellable.
However, there remains some key players who they would not sell under any circumstances, and there are now just four stars in the squad who would not even be considered for a transfer.
Barcelona would not sell Pedri, Gavi, Lamine Yamal or Pau Cubarsi this summer
The Athletic have now confirmed that defender Pau Cubarsi, midfielders Pedri and Gavi, and winger Lamine Yamal are the four “untouchable” players in the squad.
“Barcelona will likely see their summer shaped by how successfully they bring themselves in line with La Liga’s salary limit. They certainly need to sell before they buy, and there are only a few players considered untouchable: Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, Gavi and probably Pedri,” a report stated.
All four have been exceptional since graduating from La Masia, although Pedri and Gavi have suffered from injury problems in the last two seasons.
Who could Barcelona sell this summer?
Not every La Masia product is safe, as Alejandro Balde now finds himself on the list where a huge offer could be tempting.
The likes of Ronald Araujo and Frenkie De Jong could also attract a lot of interest, but there would still be reluctance on Barcelona’s part to sell.
Older fringe players such as Oriol Romeu could leave, but they would not bring in big fees or reduce the wage bill like a big departure such as De Jong would, and Barcelona have a tough summer on their hands as they may have to make unpopular decisions.
