South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer believes that people shouldn’t judge Spencer Rattler based on his actions on a Netflix show. While speaking to the NOF Network, Beamer talked about the former Gamecocks quarterback taking heat for appearing on QB 1: Beyond the Lights.

“The Netflix show that he did, which I’ve never watched in my life, but I’ve heard about this Netflix show that didn’t portray him in a good light,” Beamer said. “I can’t imagine many people at the age of 17 would be proud of a Netflix show that was done on them.

“When you’re part of a reality show like that, the producers can twist and shape the narrative however they want to make some people look a certain way. I’ve never watched it. All I knew was what I saw with my own eyes, and I saw the way that people respected him and liked him in the football facility at Oklahoma.

Did Spencer Rattler’s appearance on Netflix Show hurt Draft stock?

Rattler was projected to be drafted in the fourth round by some experts and he was ultimately taken in the in the fifth round (No. 150 overall) but the New Orleans Saints. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported after Rattler was drafted that his stock dropped because of how he treated his teammates on the show.

“Spencer Rattler did a reality show in high school,” Rapoport said, per New York Post. “It did not make him look great. And it is unbelievable how many different teams mentioned to me the image of him in that show and how they can’t get it out of their heads, which I think would be a public service announcement to all 17-year-olds. But it is fascinating while teams weigh whether or not to draft him.”

Rattle played two seasons at South Carolina after playing three at Oklahoma. In 2023, the 23-year-old threw for 3,186 yards and 19 touchdowns while completing 69 percent of his passes.

Afrer being drafted by the Saints, Rattler spoke to reporters about his name being called in the fifth round. “At the end of the day, its a blessing to get picked wherever,” Rattler said Sunday, per the Greenville News. “You know we were waiting around a day or two, but I had faith my name was going to picked (Saturday) and was just looking forward to it. We were going to be excited no matter what when my name was called.”
