Liverpool may enter the race to sign £60m attacker this summer with Manchester United also keen

Liverpool are looking to bolster their forward line in Arne Slot’s first summer transfer window at the club.

The Reds currently boast a number of high quality attacking options assembled over Jurgen Klopp’s time at Anfield. However, things have not been running smoothly of late.

There are plenty of reasons why Liverpool weren’t over to get over the line in the Premier League title race this year. Both Arsenal and Manchester City look better equipped for one.

But the reality is that the Reds are not going to end up too far away. It was there for them. With that in mind, a big finger has to be pointed at the productivity of Liverpool’s forwards, or lack thereof.

The likes of Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo have just missed too many chances. It can’t be the same next season. As a result, journalist Ben Jacobs has named three players Liverpool could now be looking to sign.

Liverpool could look to Michael Olise

Attack isn’t the only area Liverpool could do with strengthening upon Slot’s arrival as head coach. Thankfully, it has been claimed that they will simultaneously look to bring in a new centre-back.

The need to sign someone slightly more threatening going forward can’t be ignored, though.

And speaking to The Debrief podcast, Jacobs has put forward two names currently playing in English football who would suit what Liverpool need, while also potentially discounting another.

“I think profile wise the links with say, Crysencio Summerville at Leeds are accurate,” explains the journalist.

“That may be the type of age, type of profile, kind of player they’re looking for. If Leeds don’t get promoted there may be a window of opportunity whereas I’m less confident they’d see value in Pedro Neto from Wolves at £80m given his injury record. But it’s that kind of player, maybe who can go on both sides as well.

“Who knows, they could enter the race for somebody like Olise as well, even though most think he’s more likely to be a Manchester United target.”

Why Liverpool should target Michael Olise

Olise has looked like one of the best young forwards in the Premier League for a little while now.

Although he’s been plagued by injury issues this season, the 22-year-old has bagged seven goals from just 11 starts in 2023/24.

With over 150 senior appearances under his belt already, Olise is exactly the kind of profile you’d expect Liverpool to be looking at. Unsurprisingly, this is not the first we’ve heard of links with the Reds.

Although left-footed, the France U21 star is comfortable off either side and could potentially play across the forward line as a result.

His reported £60m release clause would make Olise an expensive option for Liverpool, especially given his recent injury record. If he continues to develop in the way he has since joining Palace in 2021 though, he’ll be worth much more in a couple of years. Keep an eye on this.
