'Yeah': Erik ten Hag has just admitted he wanted to sign player who was at Tottenham last year

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has just admitted that he wanted to sign a player who was at Tottenham Hotspur last year.

The Dutchman discussed all things Manchester United in an interview with Gary Neville today.

One of the topics was transfers, and Ten Hag was asked about the reason why the Red Devils have struggled to sign players that managers have wanted over the years.

The Manchester United boss, during his answer, admitted that he wanted to go and sign a player from Tottenham in last summer’s transfer window.

Unfortunately for him, his wish wasn’t granted.

Erik ten Hag shares what happened when he asked Manchester United to sign Harry Kane

Harry Kane is the best striker in the world right now.

The Englishman was Tottenham’s main man for years during his time there, and he had been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United on plenty of occasions.

Kane, however, ended up joining Bayern Munich last summer, and he has been sensational there.

The former Tottenham star is the top scorer in the Bundesliga this season. He has been unplayable at times.

Ten Hag wanted Kane at Manchester United to do exactly what he’s doing in Germany right now, but he has now revealed that his side just couldn’t get him.

That’s the reason why they went and signed Rasmus Hojlund instead.

When Gary Neville asked Ten Hag about failed transfers, the Dutchman said on Sky Sports: “We couldn’t always get the players we wanted. Then you have to build, you have to accept that you get talented (players) instead of players who have already proved it in the past.

“We had some choices. Talents like Rasmus Hojlund…

“I could see a striker who had already proved it, who we wanted to sign but we couldn’t get him. Then, we went to Rasmus. Rasmus is talented.”

Neville quickly asked: “Are you talking about Harry Kane there?”

Ten Hag replied: “Yeah. With Harry Kane, you know, he will get 30 goals. I think Rasmus, he will get there, but he needs time.”

Harry Kane’s stats this season compared to Rasmus Hojlund

Erik ten Hag has confirmed now that Rasmus Hojlund was only signed because Manchester United could not get Harry Kane last summer.

The Dane did struggle in the Premier League in his first few months at the club. He just couldn’t get on the score sheet, but he finally broke his duck in December.

Hojlund has done a decent job since, but it is important for everyone to realise that he is still just 21 years old. He has all the time in the world to get better.

Kane, on the other hand, is a proven commodity, and his numbers for Bayern Munich this season explain why Ten Hag was so keen to get him.

Here’s the big difference in stats between Kane and Hojlund this season:
