Sunderland fans appear to be changing their minds about Will Still after Reims exit

Sunderland manager target Will Still is now on the market after leaving Reims on Thursday.

Sunderland are continuing their managerial search ahead of the summer, following the sacking of Michael Beale in February.

And owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus may have been handed a major boost, and at the perfect time with 31-year-old Still having now left Reims.

Will Still leaves Reims amid Sunderland rumours

Reims announced on Thursday that they and Still had mutually agreed to part ways after 18 months together.

Still earned plaudits throughout his tenure but leaves on the back of a five game winless run and three-straight defeats.

There was rumours of unrest at Reims following Still’s links to Sunderland, with Still reportedly keen on taking the job at the Stadium of Light this summer.

What’s more is that Still would’ve previously cost Sunderland more than £4million in compensation fees; now though, he won’t cost the owners anything.

But despite all that, Sunderland fans seem to have largely gone off the idea of Still arriving as manager this summer.

Here’s what some Sunderland fans had to say about Still following his Reims exit…

@Yellowbug1969: “Is Will Still really the answer at #SAFC we have 21 losses in 45 league league games this season and fans are rightly saying it’s not good enough. Apparently WS has 21 losses in his last 48 which is scarily similar but some are thinking he’s going to be our version of Pep.”

@eathummous1: “Will Still managerial statistics very comparable to Michael Beale. #SAFC should not be anywhere near him.”

@e_sunderland: “What is the clammer from #SAFC fans please? I don’t get it. Why would we take the risk on a relative unknown when we need someone who KNOWS how to get out of this league? Surely that’s what we need right, not a role of the dice?”

@safc5573: “Am i the only one that doesn’t get this Will Still love in???”

@adampavarotti: “I Will Still not be happy with Will Still.”

@Joey2x3s: “Unsure about will Still but I’ll take anything over Beale. Anything.”

@jacka17: “Didn’t want him previously and definitely not now. A huge, unnecessary gamble, far better options even amongst the pool of largely unproven candidates. Cooper still my preference.”
