Report: How Pep Guardiola views Matheus Nunes behind the scenes after debut Man City season

Some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding how Pep Guardiola sees Matheus Nunes at Manchester City.

The midfielder is approaching the end of his first season with the Citizens after he arrived from fellow Premier League side Wolves in a deal worth a reported fee of £53m back in August.

Having not been a regular name in City’s starting XI this season, some details have now come to light about how the City manager currently views the summer signing and what his attitude has been like on and off the training pitch.

A recent report from The Athletic had this to say on the matter.

It said: “Guardiola believes Nunes is a useful player and wants to involve him more.

“Nunes is said to be a good guy who trains well and, crucially for the manager, he has not complained about his relatively few minutes — 17 players have played more in the league for City this season.”

Since arriving at the Etihad Stadium, the Portuguese international has featured in 28 games across all competitions, starting 14 of them.

Despite not managing to score a goal for the Blues, he has still managed to chip in with five assists and play across numerous midfield and attacking positions along the way.

This highlights the versatility he’s able to offer the team when called upon and why Guardiola sees him as a useful player to have in his squad.

Nunes must continue to work hard and take his chances

Even though the 25-year-old has not been starting regularly, the fact that he has been training well and hasn’t complained shows that he is willing to be patient and has the right attitude.

Looking ahead to next season, if Nunes can keep working hard with the right attitude and make the most out of any chances that come his way to play and show Guardiola what he’s capable of, he could well become a more prominent figure in the team.
