‘Every year’: Pep Guardiola says £225k-a-week Man City player has been getting better and better

Pep Guardiola has said that one player in his Manchester City squad has been getting better and better with each year.

Having been at the club since 2016, the 53-year-old is nearing the end of his eighth season in charge of the Blues.

With another Premier League title within reach, the City boss has taken the time to share some praise for one player who has played a big role in the team this season.

Speaking in his latest press conference (via BBC Sport) ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League match against Wolves, Guardiola had this to say on the subject of Phil Foden after he was named the Football Writers’ Association’s Men’s Player of the Year.

He said: “The writers decide this award. Congratulations for the writers and for him.

“He played really good this season, many players played really good this season and the writers decide for this award so what can I say? Congratulations.

“[He’s done] really good. I have said many times. The impact in the final third is very good, his work ethic.

“Every year, due to the amount of games he is playing and the minutes he is playing, he is more mature.

“He understands the game better but he has to keep on improving, he is still young.”

Phil Foden could get even better for Man City

In 48 appearances across all competitions this season, the 23-year-old has scored 24 goals and provided 10 assists.

The previous season saw Foden feature in the same number of games but was only able to find the back of the net 15 times with eight assists supplied.

This highlights how much more prominent the midfielder has been in the team and how much he has improved in terms of delivering goal contributions for his side.

With that in mind, it comes as no surprise to us that the £225k-a-week player has been named the Men’s Player of the Year by the FWA based on his performances this season and why Guardiola has shared this praise for him.

Moving forward, with the City boss still believing that Foden has what it takes to be an even player, this would be a mouth-watering prospect for everyone at the club.
