The United States wants to help Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression. However, the White House does not allow the transferred weapons to be used for strikes against Russia, stated the US Ambassador to Ukraine, Bridget Brink, during a roundtable discussion with Deputy Administrator of USAID, Isobel Coleman.

The head of the US mission expressed interest in why her country does not allow American weapons to be used for strikes against Russia, even though Washington wants Ukraine to succeed in the war.

In response, the ambassador reminded that President Joe Biden's goal is to help Ukraine defend itself and deter future aggression.

"But the first part of helping Ukraine defend itself is the supplies of our weapons and partner weapons to support your brave heroes' efforts on the battlefront to reclaim your territory. Our position has been from the beginning that we don't enable or encourage the use of our weapons in Russia, outside of Ukrainian territory," Brink added.

Restrictions on the use of Western weaponry

Since last year, Ukraine has been receiving long-range missiles from its allies capable of destroying enemy targets up to 300 kilometers away. Against this backdrop, Ukrainian military personnel have been prohibited from using such weaponry for strikes against Russia.

However, recently, the Latvian Foreign Minister, Baiba Braze, disclosed that some allies have indeed allowed Ukraine to use their weaponry for attacks on Russian territory.

Additionally, the British Foreign Secretary, David Cameron, stated that his country does not restrict Ukraine in the use of the provided weaponry.
