Report: Arsenal have now made £51m man who's one of the 'best midfielders in the world' their top midfield target

Arsenal are likely to bolster their ranks in the summer transfer window as Mikel Arteta looks to reshape and improve his squad.

The Gunners have gone from strength to strength under Arteta since he took the reins in 2019.

Arsenal are now regular Premier League title contenders and are still very much in the picture for this season’s title.

The Gunners also marked their return to the Champions League with a run to the quarter-finals of the competition.

Obviously there’s still work to do, but Arteta and Edu have been proactive in revamping their squad and they’ll most likely be busy in the summer market.

Now, a report from GiveMeSport has claimed that Arsenal have made a player deemed “one of the best in the world” their top summer target in midfield.

The report claims that the Gunners have decided to make Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi their first-choice target in the middle of the park.

Though Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz has also been a long-term target for Arsenal, GiveMeSport believe he won’t be going anywhere this summer.

With that in mind, Zubimendi – who reportedly has a £51million release clause – is now said to be the Gunners’ main midfield target this summer.

It is believed that Mikel Arteta – a former Sociedad player – could be a big factor in potentially tempting his compatriot to the Emirates Stadium.

Martin Zubimendi would be a great shout for Arsenal

Arsenal could certainly do with bolstering their midfield ranks further in the upcoming transfer window.

Thomas Partey’s injury record is concerning, while the jury remains out on Fabio Vieira and Luton loanee Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Zubimendi has made a name for himself as one of La Liga’s top talents and certainly looks like he’s ready for a step up to an elite Premier League club.

Indeed, Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente told Mundo Deportivo last year that Zubimendi and Rodri are among the ‘best midfielders in the world’.
