'That's just daft': Jamie Carragher can't believe what one Everton player did against Luton Town tonight

Jamie Carragher can’t believe what one Everton player did during the latter stages of the Toffees’ 1-1 draw with Luton Town.

It was an entertaining clash in Bedfordshire, with Sean Dyche’s side taking the lead through a Dominic Calvert-Lewin penalty midway through the first half.

However, the Hatters quickly struck back through Elijah Adebayo after a superb piece of forward play, beating Ashley Young easily in the process.

Rob Edwards’ men – in need of a win – piled on the pressure in the second half to no avail.

Luton – unsurprisingly – were consistently throwing balls into the Toffees’ box towards the back end of the game, which Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski defended brilliantly.

However, there was one moment that caught Carragher’s attention whilst speaking on Sky Sports’ co-commentary.

Youssef Chermiti committed a late foul just outside the area, allowing Luton one more chance to throw the ball into the box. Fortunately, Branthwaite produced a late clearance to deny Andros Townsend a winner against his former club.

Nevertheless, Carragher was scathing of Chermiti’s “daft” moment in the latter stages.

He said: “That’s just daft; I think it’s Chermiti that gives a silly free-kick away there.”

Thankfully, Chermiti’s challenge didn’t lead to any serious danger. Those watching on can put the tackle firmly in the ‘forward’s challenge’ category.

He’s not on the pitch to defend the edge of his box; his job is to wreak havoc at the opposite end.

Dyche introducing Chermiti and Beto certainly gave Everton another dynamic at the top end of the pitch and is something to consider moving forward. With Premier League survival now secured, potentially experimenting could be an option in the final games against Sheffield United and Arsenal.

Chermiti, in particular, has been starved of first-team chances this season and could benefit from another start. The Portuguese youngster has shown, in his brief outings, that he’s got something about him.
