'We have seen': Tony Cascarino predicts whether Leeds will pull off unthinkable and finish top two today

Tony Cascarino has predicted whether Leeds United will pull off the unthinkable and pip Ipswich Town to second place today.

The Whites head into their final day clash with Southampton needing a minor miracle to finish in second place, as they sit three points behind Kieran McKenna’s side.

Ipswich just need to avoid defeat at home to an all but relegated Huddersfield Town to join Leicester City in the Premier League, who have already been crowned champions.

Leeds, unfortunately, have had a number of opportunities to really cement their place in the top two in recent weeks but have just been unable to re-find any momentum since the international break.

That said, Leeds must maintain full belief they can do it going into the game, so they can either take advantage of any possible slip-up, or build some form for the play-offs.

Cascarino predicts whether Leeds can pull off top two miracle

Pundits from across the game have been giving their verdicts throughout the week, with David Prutton among those who can’t look past Ipswich.

The always optimistic Ben Parker, on the other hand, believes that a miracle can happen and has tipped Leeds to come away with a 3-0 victory over the Saints.

And speaking on talkSPORT this morning, Cascarino has now delivered his verdict on today’s top two battle between the Whites and Ipswich.

Cascarino believes that because Ipswich don’t even have to win to get the job done, that Leeds will be forced to settle for a place in the play-offs.

He said: “No, I don’t think so. Again, it’s a bit like the full stadium, all expectation. We have seen these sorts of hiccups along the way.”

Natalie Sawyer then responded: “There will be nerves. But I think they can. When you have got two options, a point or a win…”

The former Chelsea man added: “Or three. Maybe Leeds don’t get a result.”

Hay says three Daniel Farke decisions have cost Leeds

Though a miracle could still happen, Leeds and Farke will certainly take some time to reflect on their mistakes heading into the play-offs.

Leeds will be keen to avoid repeating them if they are to win the play-offs, and Athletic journalist Phil Hay has shared the three things he feels Farke has got wrong lately.

He said: “There are three things in my head which sort of stick out since the international break finished, definitely that call with Ampadu and Rodon. Piroe up front against QPR, and not because I didn’t understand it against Blackburn.

“With Bamford out, or the need to change it that day, I understand why he went for Piroe but I felt having seen it not work against Blackburn, as it clearly didn’t, I felt it was a bit of a gamble at QPR.

“I know the alternative was Joseph because Bamford wasn’t fit but it almost seemed like one of those nights to roll the dice. And I do think over the last month the question about how Farke changes games, in-game, using his bench, has become more pertinent.”
