'Wouldn't put us off...': Leicester City star may now be a surprise transfer target for Wrexham

Wrexham may have a surprise interest in one Leicester City star ahead of the summer transfer window.

Leicester City are returning to the Premier League after an overall impressive 2023/24 season in the Championship.

Enzo Maresca’s side now have the title wrapped up after a nervy few weeks at the top of the table, with Ipswich Town needing a point to join the Foxes in the Premier League.

Leeds United remain in 3rd and three points behind Ipswich Town.

And ahead of the summer and their return to the top flight, Leicester City seem to be already hard at work sorting out their first-team squad.

One name in particular has been a topic of conversation in the last week or so, and indeed throughout the campaign; Jamie Vardy.

There’s been questions over whether or not Leicester City would renew his deal with the 37-year-old out of contract in the summer.

But reports this week have claimed that Vardy and Leicester City are now close to agreeing fresh terms.

Vardy though may now be a surprise target for Wrexham.

Wrexham chief hints at possible interest in Jamie Vardy at Leicester City

Vardy looks set to be a Premier League player with Leicester City next season.

But no official contract is in place just yet, and it’s prompted Wrexham’s executive director Humphrey Ker to have his say on the former England striker.

Speaking to Sport Bible, he failed to rule out possible interest in the Leicester favourite, saying: “There’s nothing to say that Jamie Vardy wouldn’t be a great Wrexham player.

“It’s not a name I’ve had mentioned inside the building before but, you know, age and profile wouldn’t put us off.”

Why Jamie Vardy to Leicester City could be one to keep an eye on

Right now, it seems nailed on that Vardy re-signs with Leicester City for at least one more year.

His 18 goals in the Championship this season and four in his last three games proves that he’s still a top striker and a very useful player for Maresca.

But it seems unlikely that Vardy stays for more than one last season at the King Power Stadium.

Next summer he may well become a free agent and then he’ll have plenty of interest, most likely in the Football League.

And if Wrexham continue their impressive rise then they could well be in the Championship next season, so a move for Vardy on a free could well become more realistic.

Wrexham are returning to League One next season whilst Leicester City face a battle against the drop in the Premier League.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see what next summer has in store for Vardy.
