Jamie Carragher shares whether he sees Tottenham ever challenging for the Premier League title

Tottenham Hotspur’s season hasn’t quite gone to plan.

After title chat early in this campaign, Spurs are just about hanging onto the hope of a late top-four push, and it looks like they will be condemned to a season in the Europa League next term.

Tottenham looked to be on an upwards trajectory at one point, but, unfortunately, performances have faded and results have reverted to the mean.

Speaking on the An Echo of Glory Podcast, Jamie Carragher has been discussing Tottenham and where they go from here, and he’s shared whether or not he thinks Spurs can ever challenge for a league title.

Jamie Carragher’s Tottenham verdict

Carragher stated on the podcast that he genuinely can’t see Tottenham ever competing for a title.

“Yeah you need to need to get that trophy. That’s why the domestic cups are so important for you. I don’t think anyone ever really sees Tottenham ever competing for a title, I don’t, and I’d love to be proven wrong at some stage, but I think Tottenham every season need to have a proper go at the domestic cups,” Carragher said.

Tottenham have a lot of work to do

You can never say never in football.

If Leicester City can win a league title then Tottenham can too, but things need to change at Spurs if they are to reach that sort of level.

Spurs, for far too long, have lacked any serious ambition when it comes to spending big money in the transfer market.

Sadly, these days in football, money talks, and Spurs need to invest hugely if they’re going to catch the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City.

This current crop of players probably don’t have what it takes to challenge for a title, but we have no idea what Tottenham will look like in a few years’ time.
