'No idea': Pundit says he can't understand why £100m player even signed for Man City

Carlton Palmer says he can’t understand why one Manchester City player joined the club.

Over the past few years, many players have joined the Citizens from fellow Premier League clubs and sides from across Europe.

Some of those players have seen the Manchester club shell out significant transfer fees to sign them.

Now though, one pundit has shared his astonishment that the Blues decided to sign one specific player in one of the most significant ever transfer deals in their recent history.

Speaking in a recent episode of The World Class Stamp Podcast, Palmer said this on the matter.

He said: “For me, I think Jack Grealish is a really, really good player, but I have no idea why he went.

“Apart from getting the money, I have no idea why he went to Man City because, I know he played an integral part last season, but this season he’s hardly played. He’s played seven games.

“Man City don’t play the way that Jack Grealish plays.

“So for me as a player, you’ve got to look at when you decide to move to a football club, how you’re going to fit in that football team, does it fit your style of play, does the manager fit your style?”

Jack Grealish has been a key figure for City

The Citizens broke their club transfer record to sign the winger from Aston Villa in a deal worth £100m.

Since then, Grealish has made 124 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side in all competitions prior to today’s Premier League match against Wolves.

Across those games, the England international has scored 14 goals, delivered 18 assists and won six major titles.

After City’s 2-0 win over Everton earlier this season, Guardiola praised Grealish for the way he’s able to keep hold of the ball, highlighting one aspect of the attacker’s game he values.

In our view, the fact that the Manchester club chose to break their transfer record to sign the winger and then see him play a key role in their Treble-winning season says to us that they knew exactly what they’d be getting with him and had the belief that he’d be a strong signing for them, which, we feel, he has been.
