Journalist slams one referee decision which 'looked bad' in Arsenal v Bournemouth

Arsenal were dominant in the first half against Bournemouth, but they will be frustrated that they did not score more.

The Gunners created chance after chance against the Cherries at the Emirates, but only took the lead through Bukayo Saka’s penalty in the 45th minute.

Mikel Arteta’s side could have been in an even more comfortable lead if both their finishing, and referee decisions went their way.

Saka went down with a concerning injury early on in the first half after a dangerous challenge from midfielder Ryan Christie, and bizarrely, the Scotland International was not even awarded a yellow card.

Many are baffled at the decision after what looked like a high boot, and journalist James Olley has now slammed the referee for the decision.

On his X account, Olley questioned the decision to not even award Christie a yellow card, for a challenge which could have even been a red.

“Perhaps we’re missing something in the stadium but that Christie tackle on Saka looked bad. Knee high, misses the ball. No notification inside the stadium of even a VAR check, after not being given as a foul,” he posted.

A free kick was awarded by referee David Coote, but Christie escaped without caution, and this affected the rest of the game.

Christie’s lack of a yellow card was all the more frustrating, as it allowed him to play with complete freedom when it came to making more fouls.

The 29-year-old made two more strong fouls after the one on Saka, ones which he may not have made otherwise, which stopped Arsenal’s attacks.

If he had made the same fouls whilst on a yellow card, he may have even received a second yellow, but he was able to enter the second half without any further worry.

Arsenal did take the lead despite their frustrations, in what is a crucial game in the Premier League title race, as they aim to take Manchester City to the final day.
