Josh Windass shares cryptic 6-word message with Sunderland game possibly his last for Sheffield Wednesday

Josh Windass may have just dropped a hint on his Sheffield Wednesday future.

Windass once again scored the penultimate and all important goal of Sheffield Wednesday’s season.

The 30-year-old now has 40 goals for the Owls in his four-and-a-half seasons at the club, ending this season on six after goals in each of the last three games.

He’s out of contract in the summer and there’s been question marks over his future.

Danny Rohl was reportedly keen on keeping him earlier in the season though contract talks for the whole team were put on the backburner given their situation in the Championship.

But Sheffield Wednesday end the campaign in 20th place of the Championship table after a 2-0 win over Sunderland on Saturday, Windass scoring the second.

There are up to 15 players leaving S6 this summer.

That includes players like Windass and the likes of Barry Bannan who are out of contract, as well as loan players.

After the Sunderland game though, and after the Sheffield Wednesday celebrations cooled down slightly, Windass took to social media with may well be a hint on his Hillsborough future.

He posted:

Do Sheffield Wednesday give Josh Windass a new contract

This summer, it seems to be a case of, what Rohl wants, he gets.

Dejphon Chansiri will know that he simply has to keep hold of Rohl and the German’s comments about the future and what the club needs is surely an indication that he wants widespread change this summer.

And perhaps more than anything, facilities and so on, Rohl will want a playing squad capable of getting to the Premier League.

Form since he took charge shows that Sheffield Wednesday may only be a few players short of that, though with numbers leaving in the summer, it’ll be tough to improve on an already solid team.

Keeping Windass though now seems like a must.

Earlier in the campaign there may have been a case to let him go, but he’s more than shown his class in the last three games now and his message on Instagram may hint at him being keen on one more year at Sheffield Wednesday.

If he stays it certainly adds quality to the front line for next season.
