'A good chance': David Ornstein says Arsenal are now ready to sell their 'unbelievable' academy product

Arsenal might want to bring some new players in this summer but there’s also a good chance a few familiar faces leave as well.

It’s well known that Mikel Arteta wants to strengthen the ranks once more and a new midfielder, striker, and winger are all being touted, as well as a potential new left-back.

Of course, there is money to spend at Arsenal but they’re also battling to PSR and FFP restrictions, meaning some carefully planned sales wouldn’t go amiss either.

And according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, it looks like Arsenal are getting ready to sell one of their homegrown stars to help that situation.

Arsenal ready to sell Eddie Nketiah with PSR a key factor

Answering a question on his Athletic Q&A from a fan on Nketiah’s future at Arsenal, Ornstein suggested time is running out for the Englishman at The Emirates.

“Nketiah’s lack of playing time this season feels telling, Teddy. It suggests he might not be as central a part of their plans as would have been imagined when he signed his new contract. It is also not ideal for someone who is at a stage of his career where he needs and wants to be playing regular football,” Ornstein said.

“There has long been interest in Nketiah from the Premier League (Crystal Palace, for example) and abroad, plus his homegrown status means a sale would represent pure profit from a PSR perspective for Arsenal. So I imagine there is a good chance he moves on, but I’m not aware of any concrete developments yet.”

Time to move on for Nketiah and a few more

There is always going to be those who don’t make the whole journey when a club is successful and that time is coming for some of those players at Arsenal.

Eddie Nketiah – lauded as being ‘unbelievable‘ in training by Gabriel Jesus – is just one of a group who need to move on for their own careers now.

The striker has been a good servant and done a good job for the Gunners but there’s a time and a place and it’s now, in terms of him advancing his career.

Much like Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson – who has been linked with Crystal Palace – Arsenal have a few homegrown players who can be sold.

These players need to be playing and the fact is right now, they just aren’t getting the minutes they want under Mikel Arteta.

Nketiah, then, needs to seek a move this summer and really kick on with his career.
