'Top player': Joe Cole blown away by £27m Arsenal man; says even club insiders are surprised how good he is

Arsenal saw off Bournemouth today and Joe Cole has admitted to being really impressed by how well one Gunners star has performed.

Arsenal needed goals from Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard, and Declan Rice to see off the Cherries.

In the end, it was comfortable enough albeit for a few nervy moments and a couple of favourable refereeing decisions in crucial moments.

Arsenal now go into the final few games knowing they’re right in the mix with Manchester City.

Of course, today saw another goal for £27m signing Leandro Trossard. The former Brighton man has been a revelation since arriving.

And speaking about how Arsenal signed Trossard instead of Chelsea winger Mykhaylo Mudryk, Joe Cole has lauded the Belgian.

Joe Coles says Leandro Trossard signing has been brilliant for Arsenal

Speaking on TNT Sports about Trossard and how Arsenal missed out on Mykhaylo Mudryk to Chelsea, Cole believes even those at The Emirates will be surprised how good he’s been.

“I think Mudryk is a project. There is a player in Mudryk, and he is improving and he is getting better, and Chelsea will hopefully get the best of him. I thought they pivoted and thought, ‘Look, we haven’t got the player we want that we could ease into the squad, but we will go with Trossard, who can come in and do a job off the bench’. And I don’t think even the people here (at Arsenal), I think they are surprised at well he has done. I watched him play, he is a top player, but I didn’t see him have the effect he has done. So, fair play to him. He has been brilliant.”

Trossard one of Arteta’s best signings

There can be no denying that Leo Trossard has been a monumental signing for Arsenal.

At just £27m – which in modern money is nothing to a top club – he has delivered and delivered at crucial times more than once.

16 goals this season tells you how good he has been and the fact he is keeping Gabi Martinelli out of the team speaks volumes for how good he is.

Trossard has had the sort of influence Mikel Arteta needed at just the right time. Of course, we all know Mudryk was a target as well. And he might well become a top player.

But this feels like a sliding doors moment for the Gunners and one they’ll be delighted about.
