Stanhoe Village Hall hosting a screening of ‘The Color Purple’

Stanhoe Reading Room and Village Hall is hosting its first film screening of this summer season.

The musical and 12 age rated film ‘The Color Purple’ will be shown on Monday, May 14 at 7.30pm.

Billing itself as “a bold new take on the beloved classic”, this is Alice Walker’s famous novel reinterpreted as a musical.

In 1909, Celie, a young black American girl, is given away in marriage by her abusive father to a local farmer, Albert, who treats her cruelly.

Deliverance comes in the unexpected form of Albert’s mistress Shug Avery, a jazz singer who takes her away from her misery.

You will be able to watch the film at Stanhoe Reading Room and Village Hall, down Cross Lane.

Tickets cost £5 each on the door which includes a complimentary drink. Only cash is accepted and doors will open at 7pm.
