Ryan White from Salters Lode in King’s Lynn court for drink-driving for the second time in Downham Market

A drink-driver will not be able to get back behind the wheel again for more than three years after he was caught almost double the limit.

Ryan White, 29, of Downham Road in Salters Lode, who was also sentenced for drink-driving in 2021, was back in court for repeating a similar offence this week.

He appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday where he admitted driving above the specified alcohol limit.

Prosecutor Paul Brown explained that the incident took place on February 17 in the early hours of the morning when police on patrol saw White misjudge a corner while driving a Peugeot van in Downham.

Officers pulled him over and said that White smelt strongly of alcohol.

He was arrested and taken into custody where he provided a sample which contained 170mcg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. The legal limit is 80mcg.

Mr Brown explained that in 2021, White was disqualified from driving for 18 months for drink-driving.

In mitigation, George Sorrell explained that White suffered from a number of physical and mental health problems.

“He leads quite an uneventful life, alcohol does feature in his life but that is being addressed at the moment,” said Mr Sorrell.

Magistrates disqualified White from driving for 38 months and fined him £120. He will also pay a victim surcharge of £48 and court costs of £105.
