Daizen Maeda sends brilliant Saturday night social media post to Celtic supporters

Daizen Maeda is back and he’s ready for Celtic’s biggest game of the season against Rangers in the Scottish Premiership next week.

Brendan Rodgers had fears that the Japanese winger would miss the season run-in after picking up a hamstring injury in the wake of Celtic’s recent 3-3 draw at Ibrox.

However, he confounded medical expectations and made a quicker-than-expected return to training through the week before coming off the bench during Saturday’s 3-0 over Hearts.

His return brought a massive cheer from the stands at Celtic Park and he’s now shared that reaction made him emotional.

Daizen Maeda declares himself ‘ready’ for Celtic vs Rangers

The winger said on social media site X: “I was moved by the cheers the moment I entered the pitch. Thank you to all my fans and supporters! I’m ready for the next game!”

Maeda was a busy presence against the Tynecastle outfit, winning four duels, two tackles and an interception despite only being on the pitch for 20 minutes. He hasn’t dropped a bit of sharpness when it comes to off-the-ball work.

The attacker earned plaudits from Rodgers and pundits such as Neil Lennon in the wake of the last derby against Rangers. Every Celtic supporter wants to see him back in the team on Saturday.

For one thing, he can help shut down the James Tavernier threat. As defensively suspect as the Rangers captain is, he remains a potent attacking presence when on top form and Maeda can counteract that.

Maeda makes Celtic a better team

Maeda also thrives on the chaos a fixture like this derby throws up. He knows how to search out loose balls and score scrappy goals – it’s a trait that can be undervalued but in tight matches proves crucial.

His energy and intent are an inspiration to his teammates, too. He really sets the tone with pressing and the timing of his runs. That aggression will be key in this final run of matches.

We needed him back and he’s stepped up. Now it’s on the manager to get the best out of him.
