Report: £35m player has now told Chelsea he wants to leave this summer, negotiations have already started

Chelsea look very likely to sell one of their defenders this summer.

Mauricio Pochettino has options in the centre-back and left-back positions, but the futures of some of them are far from certain.

In central defence, the Argentine has the likes of Benoit Badiashile and Trevoh Chalobah, for example.

However, Badiashile has been linked with a move to AC Milan, while it has been claimed that Chalobah is one homegrown player who Chelsea are willing to sell this summer because of financial reasons.

As for the left-back position, there could also be exits there.

Chelsea player does not want to be at club next season

Levi Colwill, Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella have all played at left-back for Chelsea this term.

It is a role that Ian Maatsen can also play, but the 22-year-old is currently out on loan at Borussia Dortmund.

Maatsen is having a good time there and it now looks like he could remain at the Bundesliga club.

According to Sky Germany, the Dutchman has already told Chelsea that he does not want to return to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

The same outlet has also claimed that negotiations over a permanent move to Dortmund are now underway. Maatsen is reported to have a £35m release clause in his Chelsea contract.

Why does Ian Maatsen want permanent Chelsea exit?

As already mentioned, things are going well for him at Dortmund at the minute.

Maatsen is playing regularly for one of Europe’s biggest clubs, making 19 appearances for Edin Terzic’s side so far.

At Chelsea, the Netherlands U21 international barely featured. Pochettino handed him just one start in the Premier League.

It is no surprise, then, that Maatsen does not want to return to west London in the summer.

If Chelsea do manage to offload Maatsen for £35m, he would join their list of top 10 most expensive sales. However, it looks like Dortmund are trying to acquire the left-back for less than that.
