Report: Callum Wilson did something incredibly generous for 'frightening' Newcastle teammate yesterday

This is a Newcastle United team absolutely full of goals.

Their defending may have been an issue at times this season but Newcastle are one of the most prolific teams in the Premier League right now.

In fact, it’s only title-chasing Arsenal and Manchester City who have scored more than Eddie Howe’s team.

Alexander Isak, of course, is battling for the Golden Boot and his form this season has been labelled “frightening” but he’s not the only in-form forward.

Anthony Gordon is also in double figures for both goals and assists, while Callum Wilson has bagged nine League goals in as many starts.

Indeed, the firepower available to Howe is obvious but there does not appear to be much in the way of egotistical rivalry.

After all, Wilson did something remarkably generous for Isak during Saturday’s win over Burnley.

Callum Wilson did something incredibly generous for Alexander Isak as Newcastle thrash Burnley

According to The Chronicle, Wilson was in fact the designated penalty taker for the day at Turf Moor.

The England international, however, allowed Isak to step up and take the spot-kick – though he duly missed.

It was an amazing gesture from Wilson, who has previously admitted he uses the sight of Isak scoring to motivate him to do better.

Luckily, Wilson had already opened the scoring at Turf Moor and Isak later bagged one anyway.

Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak could fire Newcastle to Europe

Of the teams pushing for the top five and six, Newcastle have the more prolific options.

None of Tottenham, Chelsea or Manchester United have genuine strikers who can match Newcastle’s firepower.

While Wilson may end up leaving this summer as Newcastle try their best to keep Isak out of the clutches of Arsenal, there’s still life in the partnership between now and the end of the season.

Both fit and firing, they are surely the envy of Newcastle’s rivals.
