Erling Haaland surpassed Andy Cole in one area as Man City demolished Wolves 5-1 yesterday

As Manchester City obliterated Wolves 5-1 on Saturday, Erling Haaland surpassed Andy Cole in one respect.

City’s number nine has created history from the get-go and it does not look like his habit of doing so is set to stop anytime soon, especially evidenced by his latest heroics.

To score four goals in a single Premier League game against a quality Wolves side was another example that the 23-year-old can demolish any team in the world on his day.

It seems like Erling Haaland is well and truly back in top form.

After initially returning from injury, Haaland seemed like a shell of himself but since his cameo against Nottingham Forest last weekend, it seems like he is set to go on a goalscoring run.

That would be ideal for Pep Guardiola, who will be demanding his team to win every single remaining league fixture.

Erling Haaland surpasses Andy Cole as City beat Wolves

In title run-ins, one could argue that strikers become their team’s most important player.

Sure, one could make a valid argument for every player in the team.

But goals win games.

As a result, Haaland’s aim should be to continue bagging goals for fun that helps his team win the title rather than his latest performance simply being a brilliant outing to look back upon.

Against Wolves, the Leeds-born striker surpassed David Silva’s Premier League tally.

But Haaland also usurped certain Premier League legends in one area.

That is in terms of hat-tricks as Erling Haaland now has six to his name after his latest one against Wolves for Manchester City, while Andy Cole had five in his Premier League career, as per Squawka.

But even Robin van Persie, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Dimitar Berbatov also had five Premier League hat-tricks to their names.

That is some stat about Haaland

The fact that Erling Haaland usurped strikers like Andy Cole in terms of hat-tricks in the competition after his masterclass against Wolves is phenomenal, considering he has not even completed two seconds at Manchester City.

For context, the Englishman was in the English top-flight for over a decade and more importantly, he is the league’s fourth highest goalscorer in history.

Some might argue that Erling Haaland gets to score as many goals as he did against Wolves and in general because he plays for a top Manchester City team but Andy Cole played for brilliant Manchester United sides in particular.

The same can be said about Robin van Persie, Dimitar Berbatov and Ruud van Nisterlrooy.

Manchester City hitman Erling Haaland deserves his due credit for surpassing such legends in terms of Premier League hat-tricks as he did so in style against Wolves; especially considering how much of an icon Andy Cole is.
