'Have a look': Sky pundit wants Tottenham to sign London-based duo to replace Richarlison

Richarlison is a marmite-like figure across football and amongst the Tottenham Hotspur fanbase.

When the 26-year-old secured a club-record transfer from Everton to Hotspur Way in 2022, it raised a few eyebrows.

Harry Kane was still at the club, so he was seen as the main goal threat for Tottenham, but there was still an expectancy on Richarlison’s shoulders to produce.

But under the stewardship of Antonio Conte, he struggled and it wasn’t until an away trip to Liverpool in April did he score his only Premier League goal of that campaign.

Ironically enough, Spurs travel to the very same place 12 months later, this time higher up the league, but deflated once more after a week to well and truly forget.

Ange Postecoglou has watched his team suffer three defeats on the bounce, including two London derbies against Arsenal and Chelsea in recent days.

It has put a real dampener on proceedings and Postecoglou doesn’t seemingly know what his best XI is.

Even though Richarlison has performed much better this term and has ten Premier League goals to his name, Michael Dawson still thinks he needs replacing in the summer, as he told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (04/05/24 at 5:35 pm).

The former defender highlighted the need to bring in a number nine and attacking options for next season.

Two names he put on the table, albeit not strikers, were Crystal Palace duo Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze.

The only issue which was rightfully highlighted was how much Olise and Eze could cost a team like Spurs.

“I think they need a number 9,” said Dawson. “I think Richarlison, they spent all that money, Son we have seen last week and in recent games, he is not a number 9, he is better out on the left, and he changed Kulusevski.

“I mean, for me, you look at Eze, Olise, how much are these players going to cost? That is your question to go out there and have a look.”

Daniel Levy and Ange Postecoglou

A lot of eyes will be on the summer transfer window and how much Daniel Levy will back his manager because it’s going to be needed.

Postecoglou is already hinting that changes need to be made, but for that money to be splashed certain individuals need to leave.

For some, who aren’t starting as regularly, such as Giovani Lo Celso, it’s obvious that he will depart once the season ends.

But you feel Richarlison could be another that could depart and if he does then he won’t be missed because it’s a transfer that simply hasn’t worked out.
