Harry Maguire injury now means Ten Hag could debut U18 title-winning academy ace vs Crystal Palace

Manchester United’s ridiculous injury-ridden season continues. Harry Maguire is the latest in the medical tent.

Of course, it’s another centre-back. Manchester United are now without Maguire for the Crystal Palace clash, and what could be the rest of the season.

He joins Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Raphael Varane, Tyrell Malacia, Victor Lindelof and Willy Kambwala in the list of current injured defends, as the club confirmed on Sunday.

Full details of the England international’s injury are below.

Harry Maguire injury for Manchester United

Manchester United released a statement on the club’s official website stating that Harry Maguire has sustained a muscle injury that will keep him out for about three weeks.

Erik ten Hag and his coaching staff will be hoping he is fit for the FA Cup final vs Manchester City, whereas Gareth Southgate will be desperate for the 31-year-old to make a full recovery before the Euros.

The latest bit of Red Devils injury news now means Ten Hag will have to play a new backline once again against Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

Louis Jackson could be called upon in Manchester United reshuffle

The severe lack of defenders has meant that Louis Jackson has found his way onto the Manchester United bench over the past few fixtures – but now he may very well find his way onto the pitch.

Jackson has regularly featured for the U18s in their title-winning 2023/24 campaign and earned his first senior call-up when he was named on the substitutes’ bench for the FA Cup semi-final against Coventry City at Wembley Stadium.

Ten Hag may now have no choice but to make Jackson Academy graduate #251 against the Eagles at Selhurst Park.

It all depends on the fitness of Manchester United veteran Jonny Evans, who has been spotted in training after he’s had a period on the sidelines. If he is deemed fit to play, Evans will start no doubt.

One thing is now certain, Casemiro will be putting in a shift at the back once again. But who will partner him? Manchester United fans will find out tomorrow night at around 7 PM.

We sure didn’t expect to see a centre-back pairing of Casemiro and Louis Jackson this season – but now it seems entirely plausible.
