'Pathetic': Potential Trump V.P. Tim Scott mercilessly mocked after grilling by NBC host

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) is once again being ridiculed on social media, this time following an interview on NBC in which he failed to promise to honor the 2024 election results.

Scott, who previously made people cringe with his attempts to appear close to Donald Trump as the former president considers his vice presidential nominee, on Sunday appeared for an interview with NBC host Kristen Welker. Welker herself has recently been criticized for "profoundly irresponsible" coverage of Trump's legal woes.

During the interview, Scott is asked if he will accept the results of the 2024 election, whether or not Trump is handed a second term.

For his part, Scott said he expects Trump to win the election but didn't answer the yes or no question as it was posed.

“Will you commit to accepting the election results of 2024? Bottom line."

“At the end of the day, the 47th president of the will be Donald Trump," Scott responds.

She replies, “Yes or no, will you accept the election results no matter who wins?”

Scott then says, “That is my statement.”

He refuses to answer several more times.

That didn't go over well online, including among some others on the right wing.

Conservative attorney Heath Mayo had harsh words for Scott.

"If you can’t commit to respecting the outcome of our elections whether your guy wins or loses, you aren’t fit to hold any office and you’re an embarrassment to the United States," Mayo said. "This is pathetic."

Joel Alberto, who describes himself as a "Classical Liberal," said "there aren’t many people who’ve lost my respect so completely as" Scott.

"At one time I had high hopes for him. I now have ZERO respect for him," Alberto added. "He has a backbone made of jello. A real profile in courage."

Taylor E. Darcy, also an attorney, said, "This is what becoming MAGA means."

"He can't admit that it's possible the FORMER President could lose even though he's lost a lot: hubris and narcissism," Darcy wrote.

Lawyer Robert J. DeNault said Scott was "essentially saying Republicans plan to seize power in 2024 — regardless of whether they win."

Former journalist Jennifer Schulze said Scott's stubborn refusal to accept the results "deserves stand alone news coverage [and] lots of it."

"It comes just days after Trump said the very same thing," Schulze added.
