Key Rangers star linked with shock Premier League move; Clement admits he could leave Ibrox

John Lundstram’s Rangers future is certainly a topic of hot debate.

The former Sheffield United midfielder was technically Rangers’ best player in the 4-1 win over Kilmarnock at Ibrox but questions over Lunny’s commitment persist.

Over three years in Glasgow there have been some extraordinary highs and some devastating lows for the midfielder who is yet to get his hands on a league winners’ medal in Glasgow.

Unless that changes, you can bet the bulk of Rangers supporters will be in camp leave as his contract ticks down in Govan.

But now a new player has reportedly entered the John Lundstram game with Rangers facing increasing competition to keep the 30-year-old around at Ibrox.

Lundstram wanted by Ipswich Town?

Whilst Rangers manager Philippe Clement has been clear he’d like to keep John Lundstram around, the plates have somewhat shifted around the midfielder this week.

One of Rangers’ highest earners, Lundstram has also previously claimed that he’d like to ‘end his career’ at Ibrox.

But money talks in football and as Turkish side Trabzonspor close in on fellow out-of-contract bear Borna Barisic, Lundstram reportedly has a three-year contract offer from the Turkish side on the table.

Now, the Scottish Sun and journalist Alan Nixon are reporting that newly-promoted Ipswich Town are genuinely interested in taking John Lundstram at Portman Road.

Tractor Boys manager Kieran McKenna is apparently planning to ‘hijack’ Rangers’ contract talks and will try to convince the tough Scouser that his future lies back in England.

Ex-Rangers stars George Edmundson, Sone Aluko and Dom Ball are part of the squad who earned promotion with Ipswich and apparently Lundstram could be joining up with them next season.

Rangers wage demands currently too high

The links come as Philippe Clement admits that John Lundstram’s wage demands are currently much higher than Rangers are willing to pay.

Despite the Belgian claiming only a few weeks ago that he ‘expected’ the Scouser to sign on at Ibrox, it’s all gone a little Pete Tong in the time since.

Whilst all Rangers contract talks will now be shelved until the end of the season, it’s clear that a Rangers deal for Lunny is no so cut and dried.

“What I said (about wanting to keep Lundstram) there’s nothing official around that,” said Clement.

“I’m not naive. The longer that things last the more possibility that other people step in.

“For the moment apparently the water is too deep between the two sides but I see Lunny every day in the say way that he was two months ago, three months go, or five months ago.

“So he’s fighting for the club and he’s not busy with that. All these players are busy with winning trophies and doing the right things together, otherwise they would not be in the selection.”

John Lundstram has made 150 appearances for Rangers since joining the club from Sheffield United in 2021, scoring 11 goals and laying on eight assists.
