Report: Arne Slot is expected to promote 'excellent' Liverpool youngster into the first team this summer

Arne Slot is set to promote a Liverpool youngster into the first team this summer during pre-season.

For a lot of Liverpool’s players on the fringes of Jurgen Klopp’s squad, his departure will provide a new opportunity.

Arne Slot looks likely to replace Klopp, and for those players on the fringes, his arrival will mean a fresh start and a clean slate.

It will mean they can begin anew and climb up the pecking order. Among those hoping to catch Slot’s eyes will be one of his fellow Dutch compatriots in Sepp van den Berg.

Sepp van den Berg latest reports

Sepp van den Berg has been at Liverpool for almost five years now, but he’s spent the vast majority of his spell at the club on loan.

Last season, he was at Schalke in the Bundesliga, the season before that he spent a season and a half at Preston in the Championship where he was lauded by Lancashire Live for his ‘excellent’ performances.

Now the 22-year-old centre-back is playing for Mainz in the Bundesliga. He’s enjoyed a good season, and the Daily Mirror has now reported he is expected to be handed an opportunity in Liverpool’s first team under Slot this summer.

The repot claims Van den Berg will be promoted to the first team in pre-season and given an opportunity to catch the eye.

How has Van den Berg been getting on this season?

Van den Berg has really caught the eye on loan at Mainz. This season has been his best loan spell yet, catching the eye in the Bundesliga, where he has established himself as a top defender.

Earlier this season he even matched Van Dijk’s aerial numbers, and it would be a shame if he wasn’t given a chance at least in pre-season for Liverpool this summer.

At 22-years-old he still has a lot of potential in the game, and Liverpool have already invested so much time developing him. Now with Slot being Dutch, having that connection could finally help him to break into the first team.
