'Uncomfortable': Jamie Redknapp reacts to what Klopp did after FT v Tottenham with Liverpool midfielder

Liverpool showcased against Tottenham one of the reasons why they won’t be winning the Premier League title this season.

Yes, it was a deserved 4-2 win, but during the final 20 minutes, they conceded two goals and started to become sloppy and too comfortable in their play even though they were 4-0 up at one stage.

A lot has been made about how Liverpool have lacked that ruthless nature and calmness in the final third during these past few months.

But the defending has also been a cause for concern, as Spurs exploited towards the end of Sunday’s game at Anfield.

That’s why Jurgen Klopp was in an animated discussion with Stefan Bajcetic after the full-time whistle.

The 19-year-old, who has missed the majority of the campaign with a calf injury, came on for his first Premier League appearance of the season.

But Klopp was seen to be in a lengthy discussion with him straight after and it seemed to reflect on what happened during the latter stages of the game.

Jamie Redknapp stated that the soon-to-be-departing Liverpool boss was ‘talking to Bajcetic about the defensive role you have to fill’, as he told Sky Sports Premier League (05/05/24 at 6:40 pm).

When the Reds youngster came onto the pitch, just after the hour mark, the scoreline read 4-0 to his team.

But he, nor his teammates, could stop Tottenham from providing the Merseyside club with a little scare and how it ‘just got a little bit uncomfortable’.

Jurgen Klopp’s discussion with Stefan Bajcetic

“Bajcetic is a talented young player, and you could see Jurgen Klopp talking to him about the defensive role that you have to fill,” said Redknapp.

“That’s a vital part in any match, and they lost their way a little bit and it just got a little bit uncomfortable.”

Stefan Bajcetic under Arne Slot

For Bajcetic, it’s a huge shame that a calf injury has kept him out of the majority of the campaign because he would have earned a fair few starts under Klopp.

The rising teenager has shown some promise during the early part of his Liverpool career and he should be used by Arne Slot next season.

It’s expected that Slot will take over and he has some top academy talent to give minutes to.

It remains to be seen if the Dutchman will be brave and continue to hand minutes and starts to younger players if he struggles during the early stages because this is going to be one tough old gig.
