Karun Chandhok says that Lewis Hamilton did something absolutely ‘class’ during the Miami Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton had another mixed weekend in the 2024 Formula 1 season, although pundit and former F1 driver Karun Chandhok loved one thing he said from the seven-time world champion in Miami.

After missing out on points in the Sprint Race due to a drive-through penalty, Lewis Hamilton did achieve a top-ten finish in the main Grand Prix on Sunday.

Posting on his Instagram story, Karun Chandhok shared what he really enjoyed from the 39-year-old.

Heading into the Sprint Race on Saturday, Lewis Hamilton had plenty of work to do.

He and his teammate George Russell both missed out on the final part of qualifying for that race and Hamilton tried to make amends for that heading into the first corner.

Hamilton couldn’t get his car slowed down in time and contributed to the crash that ultimately ended Lando Norris’s race with both Aston Martins immediately out of contention to score points.

The 39-year-old avoided a penalty but was left frustrated by Kevin Magnussen’s unique style of defensive driving that earned him several penalties and added penalty points to his license, although he admitted he enjoyed the fight in his post-race interview.

He eventually crossed the line in 8 but handed his point to Yuki Tsunoda after being penalised for speeding in the pit lane.

Hamilton had a battle with Magnussen’s teammate Nico Hulkenberg in the main Grand Prix and came out on top on this occasion, recording an impressive 6-place finish.

However, Karun Chandhok spotted Hamilton doing something ‘class’ after the Miami Grand Prix finished.

After winning more than 100 Grand Prix during his Formula 1 career, he was delighted to see another driver add their name to the list of victors in the sport.

Lewis Hamilton lauds Lando Norris on-track after maiden victory

In the video Chandhok is replying to on Instagram, Hamilton has driven alongside Norris on the cooldown lap and can be seen giving the McLaren driver a thumbs up before applauding the 24-year-old as he greeted the crowd.

Chandhok responded to the heart-warming clip and simply said: “Class from @lewishamilton.”

It’s no surprise to see Hamilton’s delighted reaction to Norris winning his first Grand Prix.

The seven-time world champion will always have a soft spot for McLaren after starting his time in the sport with the Woking-based outfit.

He also won his first championship with the team before heading to Mercedes to begin his true period of dominance.

Lando Norris is nowhere near entering that sort of era, but McLaren winning a race when both Ferraris and Red Bulls were running is a sign that they’re a team to seriously consider now.

Oscar Piastri highlighted this in the first half of the race, running second until a poorly-timed pit stop and collision with Carlos Sainz ended his hopes of a positive result.

Hamilton shared after the race what advice he gave to Norris about celebrating his first win.

It was an incredibly popular result in the paddock, with plenty of his rivals – including Max Verstappen – congratulating him in person and on social media.

Lando Norris has finally ended his long wait for a Formula 1 race victory, he’ll be hoping he doesn’t have to race in another 110 Grand Prix to stand on the top step of the podium once again.
