Ange Postecoglou has done something in his first season neither Jurgen Klopp or Mikel Arteta managed

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has done something which neither Jurgen Klopp or Mikel Arteta were able to match in their first seasons in the Premier League.

It was another difficult afternoon for Tottenham yesterday as they sunk to a 4-2 defeat away to Liverpool at Anfield.

The defeat has now left any hope of a late surge for Champions League qualification in tatters on the back of an earlier defeat for Aston Villa.

And, if anything, it now has Spurs looking over their shoulders at the likes of Newcastle United who are gaining on Ange Postecoglou‘s side at a rapid pace.

Spurs are crying out for the season to end, but despite the run of bad form, their 58-year-old manager has still done something neither Klopp or Arteta achieved in their first Premier League seasons.

Three games remain in Tottenham’s season and they currently hold a four-point advantage over sixth-placed Newcastle.

Fans will naturally be frustrated by the drop-off in performances and results of late, but there is a lot of positives to take from this season still.

Ange Postecoglou has outperformed Jurgen Klopp and Mikel Arteta in his first season

Daniel Levy‘s appointment of Postecoglou was always going to be a risk considering the Australian had never managed in the Premier League before.

And the last few weeks have been seriously underwhelming with the Lilywhites not looking anything like the side which kicked off the season in style.

Regardless, it is a long process ahead of Tottenham with Postecoglou at the helm and one which will require patience.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been treated to the best football they have seen in years under Postecoglou and another summer to work on his side will only be a positive.

According to TalkSPORT, the Tottenham manager has secured more points in his opening 35 Premier League games than both Klopp and Arteta managed.

It has to be remembered that Postecoglou inherited a side which finished eighth in the league last season and lost Harry Kane over the summer.

This summer will offer Spurs with the chance to address some of the issues which have cropped up over the course of the season.

Undoubtedly, it has been a disappointing end, however, it will be a case of lessons learned if Postecoglou develops on the back of these recent results.

Ange Postecoglou’s players are visibly frustrated with how things are going

At half-time Emerson Royal and Cristian Romero were separated by goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario after having a disagreement on the pitch.

After the game, Postecoglou admitted he was not too concerned by the coming together between his players.

“I didn’t see it but a few people mentioned it. As I’ve said to others, they care. It hurts them. They’re just not going to be happy with the current situation and because they care they want to improve,” he said.

“There’s nothing wrong with that as long as it’s done in a constructive way. Irrespective, the players I’ve been told who were involved they care. They want to change the situation and not accept it.”

It is now onto Burnley where three points feels like an absolute necessity for Postecoglou’s side.
