The Russian government sharply reacted to the statement by British Foreign Secretary David Cameron, who declared that his country allows Ukraine to strike Russian territory, according to the press service of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned British Ambassador to Russia Nigel Casey to express protest over Cameron's statement.

“Nigel Casey was firmly told that Cameron's hostile rhetoric directly contradicts assurances by the British party during the transfer of long-range cruise missiles to Kyiv that they would not be used under any circumstances on Russian territory," the Ministry said in a statement.

According to the Ministry, the ambassador was told that Russia perceives the British minister's words as "confirmation of London's increased involvement in military actions on the side of Ukraine."

"N. Casey was warned that in response to Ukrainian strikes using British weapons on Russian territory, any military targets and equipment of Great Britain on the territory of Ukraine and beyond its borders could become targets," the Russian Foreign Ministry wrote.

What Cameron said

David Cameron, the British Foreign Secretary, recently stated during his visit to Ukraine in an interview with Reuters that his country has allowed Ukrainian military forces to strike targets on Russian territory using British weapons.

He noted that Ukraine has the right to launch such attacks on Russia.

Britain is transferring long-range Storm Shadow missiles to Ukraine. They can hit enemy targets within a radius of about 300 kilometers.
