Port Richey Woman Accidentally Strikes Her Sister With Car, Killing The Woman

PORT RICHEY, Fla. - A Port Richey woman accidentally ran over her sister Monday, killing the woman as she checked her mailbox.

Troopers say an 87-year-old Port Richey woman was driving a Mercury sedan backing out of a private driveway at Elm Leaf Court after dropping off her 86-year-old sister.

The sister walked to the mailbox to check for mail as the driver was reversing out of the driveway.

After exiting the driveway, the driver changed gears to travel forward, then accidentally depressing the gas pedal and traveling forward.

Near the mailbox, the car struck the woman, continued forward until colliding with a tree, and finally struck a Toyota Venza parked at a neighbor’s home located at 8725 Elm Leaf Court.

The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.
