'Shouldn't happen'... Ten Hag says five Man Utd players did not listen to his instructions

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has given his verdict on the team’s defeat at Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace were a class above Manchester United last night, with Erik ten Hag‘s side falling to a 4-0 loss.

Palace scored early and while there was a controversially disallowed goal for United, the visiting side were second best throughout.

United have won only one of the past seven games and the situation is looking bleak for the manager amid an awful injury crisis.

Erik ten Hag unhappy with Manchester United first goal conceded

Michael Olise scored the opening goal after he left Casemiro on the deck 30 yards out, and then ran unopposed at the defence before slotting it into the bottom corner.

It was far too easy, and Erik ten Hag was fuming about the way it was conceded after the game.

Speaking to club media, Ten Hag explained that his coaching staff had specifically worked on how to avoid situations like this, and his players had not listened.

He slammed a lack of organisation and responsibility among the team themselves.

He said: “The throw-in where you concede the first goal, that shouldn’t happen and that is as a team because we don’t follow their rules. We don’t adapt to the different situations to organise, to keep control in those situations.

“Five players over the ball and they have a throw-in, it is not possible.”

“There are five players there and that is a goal that shouldn’t happen because we really give clear instructions of how we should defend this.

“They didn’t bring it on the pitch and we got hammered.”

There was another incident he pointed out that he was unhappy with, commenting: “The left side, there was two players doubling up on one player and so, that is very poor defending.”

Manchester United now in eighth place in the Premier League

Playing in the final game of the weekend, Manchester United were in eighth position, and could have moved up to sixth with a win.

Instead, we remain in eighth, behind Chelsea and Newcastle, who have both had poor seasons, just now slightly less so than ours.

Ten Hag did say that he pinned the blame for the loss on the entire team adding: “You can’t put this to one player. It’s a team performance.”

Looking ahead he commented: “We have to fight for the nine points. We have to put it right on Sunday.

“We have to learn from this game and improve.”

We would say it can’t get worse, but it probably can.
