Cristian Romero suggests Tottenham need to start using ‘quality’ player more often

Tottenham Hotspur vice-captain Cristian Romero has now admitted one player needs to play more often.

Three games remain in Tottenham‘s 2023/24 campaign before the summer and there is still fifth place to secure.

It has been a turbulent few weeks for Ange Postecoglou‘s side who now find themselves going into the Burnley game on Saturday having lost their last four.

And with that has come the inability to nail down a consistent starting XI of late with a number of players severely underperforming.

James Maddison and Yves Bissouma have been the two prime examples of this with the pair looking like shadows of the players who started the season.

It is now apparent the World Cup-winning Cristian Romero wants to see one specific change going into the final few games of the season.

Spurs still have to secure fifth spot with Newcastle United seriously beginning to close in on them from sixth.

But a win on the weekend against a Burnley side – who could have their relegation confirmed – would go a long way towards that.

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has not exactly been treated to the football which fans saw over the early stages of the season.

And that has largely been down to some of the disappointing performances which have been on display by some players who fans have come to expect a lot more from.

For the most part, Postecoglou has tried to play the likes of Maddison through their form, however, it has not worked.

And now Romero is wanting to see his compatriot, Giovani Lo Celso, played more frequently with the Argentine really struggling for game time.

Responding to praise from the midfielder on Instagram, Romero said, “I love you brother. We need you.”

However, game time for the 28-year-old has been hard to come by and he only got a further 15 minutes on the weekend at Anfield.

Giovani Lo Celso looks set to leave despite impressing when played

It has been a strange season for the Argentine who may feel incredibly hard done by with a severe lack of game time.

Lo Celso was dubbed as “quality” by Postecoglou earlier in the campaign and he has seriously impressed when he has come on as a substitute.

But the Australian just has not put his faith in the midfielder since he replaced Maddison during his injury.

It is now suggested the Argentine has made the decision to leave over the summer and perhaps that is what is stopping Postecoglou from using him more frequently.

However, with Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski so desperately out of form, fans want to see Lo Celso make the difference from the starting XI.
