Latvian President and Spanish Prime Minister to attend peace summit

Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez will participate in a peace summit organized by Ukraine and Switzerland on June 15-16, according to the X accounts of Rinkēvičs and Sánchez.

Participation of the Latvian President

Rinkēvičs wrote that he had a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“I will participate in the upcoming peace summit in Switzerland,” the Latvian President said.

He also said that he had discussed defense cooperation with Zelenskyy.

The Latvian President thanked his Ukrainian counterpart for congratulating him on the anniversary of the restoration of Latvian independence (on May 4, 1990, the country's parliament adopted a declaration of independence).

Participation of the Spanish Prime Minister

The Spanish Prime Minister also talked about his phone conversation with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

According to Sanchez, the parties discussed the signing of an agreement on security guarantees for Ukraine and progress in the relevant negotiations.

“We agree on the importance for Ukraine of the peace summit to be held next month in Switzerland, which I will attend. We continue to work towards a fair and stable peace based on respect for international law,” he added.

Which countries will participate

Yesterday, on May 6, during talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda and Polish President Andrzej Duda confirmed their participation in the peace summit.

France and Slovakia are also expected to participate, as stated by the leaders of these countries.
