Gabby Agbonlahor takes swipe at Man Utd legend over poorly-aged prediction after Crystal Palace’s thumping win

Gabby Agbonlahor has aimed a dig at one Manchester United legend after Crystal Palace’s 4-0 Premier League steamrolling of Erik ten Hag’s men on Monday evening.

Manchester United suffered a crushing defeat away from home, with an under-fire Erik ten Hag facing further criticism over the Red Devils’ lacklustre performance.

Michael Olise fired Crystal Palace into a first-half lead before Jean-Philippe Mateta doubled the advantage of the Eagles before half-time.

Tyrick Mitchell scored Palace’s third of the contest after the break before the United-linked Michael Olise completed his brace in the second half at Selhurst Park.

United offered very little in response to Palace’s ruthless performance and Ten Hag’s men were widely criticised for their woeful performance in the 4-0 thumping defeat.

The Red Devils have fallen to eighth place in the league table and have only three Premier League matches remaining before the end of the season.

Ten Hag’s second season at Old Trafford could still end on a high note later this month if United can defy the odds and beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

Agbonlahor aims dig at Man Utd legend

Gabby Agbonlahor took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and didn’t pass up the opportunity to reignite his rivalry with Gary Neville.

The 37-year-old former Aston Villa and England striker has previously pulled no punches towards Manchester United legend Gary Neville.

Agbonlahor has criticised Neville in the past and claimed that United legend David Beckham “carried him” on the right flank during his prolific playing career.

The talkSPORT presenter quote tweeted an interview with Neville from February, with Agbonlahor simply posting eye emojis after Crystal Palace’s win.

What did Neville say in the interview?

Agbonlahor’s not-so-subtle dig was in reference to Neville claiming that United could “sneak” into the top four, despite their inconsistency throughout the season.

United were only five points behind fourth-place Aston Villa in February after their 2-1 Premier League win against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

Fast-forward to May and Aston Villa remain in pole position to finish inside the top four and secure Champions League football.

Villa are fourth in the Premier League table and are seven points clear of fifth-place Tottenham, though Unai Emery’s men have played one match more than Spurs.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the Luton Town match in February, Neville said: “They can do it, definitely [United finishing in the top four].

“They can go three points [behind] Spurs today. Spurs play Villa in a couple of weeks. I know United play City.

“United need six points from these two matches, Luton and Fulham. They can’t make any mistakes in these two games. There’s still a long way to go for United, there’s still a lot of work to do.

“But travelling from Manchester this morning, looking about that league table, thinking about what United have got coming forward and the fact they’ve got a lot of the players fit, there’s a lot more optimism about whether United can finish into the Champions League.

“If I was looking at it today, I’d probably say yes, they’ll sneak into that fifth/fourth place.

“They’ve got to be consistent, and haven’t been that over this season, but just the last few weeks, there are signs it’s starting to happen a little bit.”
