'I'm convinced': Jamie Carragher makes prediction about £51m Man City ace after 'astonishing' moment v Wolves

Jamie Carragher appeared on Monday Night Football last night, and said that one Manchester City player did something ‘absolutely astonishing’ against Wolves.

City thumped Wanderers 5-1 on Saturday evening to keep the pressure on Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.

The Gunners had beaten Bournemouth 3-0, and it was vital for Pep Guardiola’s side to respond – and they did in style.

Erling Haaland stole the headlines with four goals, with Julian Alvarez grabbing a fifth late on. Hwang Hee-chan scored for Wolves.

Haaland’s performance was absolutely devastating, and the haul of four goals took him to 25 in the Premier League – that will likely be enough for him to claim a second successive Golden Boot. He also surpassed David Silva’s goal tally for the club.

Jamie Carragher analysed Haaland on Monday Night Football last night – and he made a pretty ominous prediction about the 23-year-old…

It was Crystal Palace against Manchester United last night, but ahead of that game Carragher focused on Haaland after his lethal display against Wolves.

The Norwegian sensation wowed with his finishing, and also his athleticism on the second goal.

It was a magnificent header, with Rodri supplying the cross from the right side. Haaland had ghosted to the back post, and then towered over the ball to get it into the far corner.

Sky Sports pundit Carragher said: “I loved it. I’ve said this for a long time now, I actually don’t feel we’ve seen the full package of Erling Haaland because of who he plays for. That’s not a criticism – it’s Pep’s style.

“I’m convinced there’s more there, and we’ve seen it on a handful of occasions. Last season against Manchester United at home, last season against Arsenal at home. I think it was against Brighton when he just knocked a defender out of the way last season.

“It was a devastating performance (against Wolves).

“(On the header) This, for me, I absolutely love that. Seeing a centre-forward get up above a defender. I mean the height he got was absolutely astonishing.”

After the game with Wolves, another Sky pundit Jamie Redknapp insisted that Haaland was just ‘built differently’ to other strikers after seeing his reaction to being taken off.

Haaland is frightening, and still years away from his peak

This was an incredible show of athleticism from Haaland, and it is not the first time we have seen him display that.

It was a terrific header and Carragher is probably right with his verdict that there is still a lot to come from Haaland.

Given the way City play, £51 million star Haaland will often be quiet in games before coming to life and scoring a goal. It is very rare you see him coming deep to get involved. That is not what he was bought for.

Eventually, though, we may see Haaland become more influential and get a bit more involved. Possibly, we could see his general play a bit more once Pep Guardiola has left the Etihad.
