There have been some fun moments after home runs in the SEC in recent weeks, from an LSU fan named Cory taking a Tommy White home run off the head to a snag on Tuesday night of a Jac Caglianone homer by a young fan.
Caglianone provided a memory that one fan will never forget when he launched his 27th home run of the season right over the left field wall.
A young fan, dressed in red, lined up the home run as it careened toward the wall. Glove in hand, he made the catch, then raised both arms up in triumphant celebration as he ran around on the berm.
At the tail end, the young fan appeared to jump into his father’s arms, just an all-around cool moment with Caglianone chasing history.
Who knows, that ball could become part of a truly historic run for the Florida slugger. Jac Caglianone led the nation in home runs last year and is chasing Georgia‘s Charlie Condon for the national lead.
He’s already made some history in the process. At one point this season, Caglianone hit a home run in nine consecutive games, tying the NCAA record. Although Caglianone currently has some competition on that front; Condon has hit a home run in seven straight games and will be gunning for Caglianone’s mark over the next week or so.
Caglianone has also passed some half-dozen of the program’s best home run hitters in recent weeks. He sits second all-time with 67 career home runs, just seven shy now of Matt LaPorta‘s school record of 74.
If Caglianone can keep his current pace, he’ll have a decent shot to tie or break the mark … if Florida can make a decent postseason run.
But for Tuesday night, Jac Caglianone will have to settle for making one young fan’s night. A cool moment, to be sure.
