Report: Club now ready to sell £20m West Ham target who Alan Shearer deemed a 'proper centre-forward'

West Ham United are likely to be busy in the summer transfer window following the new manager’s arrival at the London Stadium.

The Hammers have confirmed that David Moyes will depart the club at the end of the season, and Julen Lopetegui has reportedly agreed to take over.

West Ham have done well over the past year, winning the Europa Conference League and reaching the Europa League quarter-finals.

The Hammers could certainly do with bolstering their ranks in the summer, and the front line is an area that could do with strengthening.

Now, a player that has been linked with West Ham in recent weeks is apparently set to be put up for sale by his club at the end of the season.

The player in question is Newcastle United’s Callum Wilson, who Sportslens recently claimed was on the Hammers’ radar.

GiveMeSport have now reported that the 32-year-old is ‘likely to be sold’ by Newcastle as they look to balance their books in terms of FFP and PSR.

However, the report did also link Wilson with former club Bournemouth, so with that in mind, West Ham will need to work hard if they want to get their hands on him.

What can Callum Wilson offer West Ham?

Wilson has been a consistent Premier League scorer for years now and would certainly be able to do a job for the Hammers.

This season, the £20million man has 10 goals from 25 outings for Newcastle, and his overall Magpies tally reads 107 appearances, 48 goals and 11 assists.

Wilson, who Alan Shearer deemed a “proper centre-forward” (The Athletic, 2021), has also won nine caps for England and has scored two goals for his nation.

With his contract running until 2025, he shouldn’t be overly expensive, so let’s see whether West Ham opt to firm up their interest in the coming months.
