'Has to start': Chris Sutton suggests Brendan Rodgers needs to play 'unbelievable' Celtic player vs Rangers

The Celtic fans will be looking ahead to the Glasgow Derby against Rangers with a sense of excitement, nerves and confidence.

It’s probably the only game on the calendar that can affect every human emotion at one time and with the title race being as close as it is, Saturday’s game at Celtic Park is sure to be a tense affair.

With Celtic’s form hitting a purple patch just at the right time and with all our top players now back from injury, Brendan Rodgers will be feeling pretty good about where his team are at right now.

However, it seems that the Celtic manager has a tough team selection decision to make ahead of the visit of Rangers and Chris Sutton believes that the fans will need to ‘wait and see’ what the Hoops gaffer does.

Doubts cast on James Forrest’s starting spot

James Forrest has been in superb form for Celtic recently. Scoring against Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup semi-final and a double against Dundee made the Hoops winger one of the first names on the teamsheet for Hearts at the weekend.

And Forrest didn’t let anyone down. But Sutton believes that despite his recent form, the Celtic winger’s place in Celtic’s starting lineup against Rangers is not guaranteed.

Sutton said [Record Celtic podcast], “We’ll have a debate about who’s going to start, James Forrest or Nicolas Kuhn.

“I don’t think that that is as cut and dried because Brendan may see it as he likes Nicholas Kuhn coming on the inside, driving the inside and causing problems in that respect.

“I think that is the one area if Daizen Maeda is fit and how fit is he?

“But I do take your point that I think that James Forrest on recent form has to start, but I think that’s still a wait and see that one.”

In my view, ‘unbelievable‘ Forrest must start alongside Daizen Maeda on Saturday. Whilst Nicolas Kuhn has shown potential, he hasn’t really done enough to keep his place ahead of the Celtic pair.

Against Hearts, Kuhn only created one chance and made two crosses which failed to meet their intended target.

And at Dens Park, he wasn’t much better. No chances were created and four crosses all, again, failed to reach any of his Celtic teammates, Kuhn just isn’t at the level where Forrest and Maeda are at just now. [Fotmob]

James Forrest must start and Maeda is a no-brainer because if Celtic win on Saturday the league is all but over and both these players offer a better chance of us getting that win.
