Report: Wolves now ‘enquire’ about ‘crazy’ transfer target with 30 goal contributions in 2023/24

Wolves have been named as one of the clubs interested in a forward with 30 goal contributions this season, he could transform Gary O’Neil’s side.

Wolves will be desperate to welcome new faces to Molineux this summer, as Gary O’Neil looks to finally rebuild the squad he inherited from Julen Lopetegui last year.

The summer of 2023 was a difficult period for the Old Gold who offloaded star talent in order to generate much-needed profit however, as a result of financial restrictions, such quality was not able to be replaced.

Subsequently, O’Neil entered the 2023/24 campaign with an extremely limited squad, something the manager has navigated impressively although, changes must be made this summer to ensure progression can continue.

After firing a warning to Fosun for not being able to raise the funds to sign a forward in January, the boss will hope that the owners can produce financial support, with one target identified.

Wolves enquire about Union SG forward Mohamed Amoura

In January, it was reported that Wolves were battling Arsenal to sign Mohamed Amoura, a versatile Algerian striker playing in Belgium for Union SG.

Now, L’Equipe has named the Midlands club as one of the sides to ‘enquire’ about the 23-year-old, who is claimed to have a host of admirers around Europe.

It’s speculated that the Wolves target has a price tag close to €20m (£17m), making him an assumably affordable forward for the Old Gold to eye in the summer transfer window.

Mohamed Amoura could be the forward Gary O’Neil needs

Earlier this season, Amoura was lauded by talent scout Jacek Kulig for his ‘absolutely crazy’ first campaign at Union SG, where he has lit up the Belgian league in front of goal.

Over the 2023/24 campaign, the Algerian has contributed to 30 goals, netting 23 and assisting seven so far in all competitions for both Union SG and his previous club, FC Lugano.

The 23-year-old joined the Belgian Pro League side last summer from the Swiss club, where he impressed playing a range of positions including on the wing and as a striker.

For Wolves, a player like Amoura could be the answer to a host of O’Neil’s current problems, with it recently made known just how short the Old Gold are of quality in attack.

With Hwang Hee-chan suffering an injury and Matheus Cunha best deployed behind the traditional number nine, the manager was left bare of attacking options, seeing academy talents fill the gaps when key players were absent.

In Amoura, O’Neil could finally have the target man Wolves have been yearning for this season, in a player capable of scoring goals and being the difference maker for his side.

Interestingly, for his statistics over the past year, the Algeria international is statistically comparable to former Wolves target Viktor Gyokeres, via FBref, who has scored 41 goals for Sporting CP this term.

On many occasions this campaign, the Old Gold have needed a player capable of putting the ball in the net, with creating chances not so much of a problem in O’Neil’s intricate system.

Early indications suggest that Amoura could be the ideal target for Wolves if the club can lure the Algerian to the Midlands amid a list of interested parties.
