Former Aston Villa player brilliantly mocks Rio Ferdinand with 4-word dig after Manchester United defeat

Ahmed Elmohamady has responded to Rio Ferdinand following Manchester United’s 4-0 battering at the hands of Crystal Palace on Monday night.

Ferdinand has not helped his popularity amongst Aston Villa fans this season, insisting regularly that his former club Manchester United would displace them in the top four despite all evidence suggesting otherwise.

However, this was made much worse as Ferdinand took to ‘X’, formerly Twitter, to mock Douglas Luiz after United beat Villa 2-1 in February which closed the gap between the two sides to six points.

Unai Emery‘s side had gone 1-0 down to a Rasmus Hojlund goal after 17 minutes, but Luiz levelled in the 67th-minute.

It was Luiz’ celebration that prompted anger from the United players and supporters, as he appeared to deliberately celebrate in front of the opposition players.

United scored a later winner through Scott McTominay, which consigned Villa to two consecutive defeats having gone out of the FA Cup with a 3-1 loss to Chelsea days earlier.

Ferdinand was on hand to immediately rub salt in the Villa wounds, clearly wound up the celebration by Luiz which he interpreted as inflammatory.

The England international turned pundit took to ‘X’ to post a picture of Luiz celebrating with the caption: ‘U ok @dgoficial’.

The pettiness did not go down well amongst the Villa fanbase, with the fact Ferdinand tagged Luiz’ official ‘X’ account only adding to the immature nature of the post.

However, Villa have now had the last laugh thanks to Elmohamady.

Elmohamady was a fan favourite in his time at Villa Park, clocking up 129 appearances for the club according to Transfermarkt.

The Egyptian continues to be employed by the midlands club, now working in the club’s commercial department.

The 36-year-old cemented his status as a Villa favourite as he brilliantly clapped back at Ferdinand on Tuesday.

United are enduring a torrid time, with the only team they have beaten in their last seven league games being bottom side Sheffield United.

The Old Trafford club hit arguably their lowest point of the season as they were thrashed 4-0 by Palace on Monday night.

That result left United eighth in the league and they could now miss out on Europe altogether whilst Villa are one win away from securing a Champions League spot.

Elmohamaday was on hand to compound United’s misery – and particularly Ferdinand’s – as he quoted Ferdinand’s original ‘X’ post and responded with the caption: ‘you ok big man’.
